Zanu-PF Secretary for Administration Cde Ignatius Chombo has challenged the party structures to begin mass mobilisation of voters ahead of next year’s elections and ensure victory that will shame the country’s detractors. Cde Chombo said this yesterday during a one-day workshop on voter education and voter registration held at the party’s headquarters. “Comrades, there is no doubt that the elections are going to take place in the first half of next year,” he said. “Time is, therefore, of essence if we are going to put in place mechanisms that will help us win the election.

“And for us as Zanu-PF, there is no other option, but to win this election by a margin that leaves no doubt that we are the dominant political party in this country.

“Our victory next year must send a very clear and strong message to all and sundry that Zanu-PF means serious business in fulfilling the mandate that the people of Zimbabwe have always bestowed on us to govern this country since 1980 when we attained Independence.

“Our win must also put to shame all our local and foreign detractors.”

Cde Chombo said Zanu-PF had a number of projects being implemented under the Zim-Asset economic blueprint, whose successful implementation would see the demise of opposition politics in Zimbabwe.

“I wish to reiterate once more that the nation in general and Zanu-PF in particular is now in serious campaign mode for the 2018 harmonised elections,” he said.

“We can never over-emphasise the importance of the forthcoming elections that will give Zanu-PF the mandate to continue running the country. The Zanu-PF Government has many pending projects under Zim-Asset that it has to see to fruition.

“The successful completion of these projects will see the relegation of the MDCs and other opposition parties to the doldrums of political history.”

Cde Chombo said the Youth League and the Women’s League had already started mobilisation efforts as seen by the widely subscribed Presidential Youth Interface Rallies that are underway.

“I am pleased that the Youth League has already set the pace with the Presidential Youth Interface Rallies, which we have all seen to be overwhelmingly successful,” he said.

“Additionally, the fact that the youths have successfully lobbied to have President Mugabe’s birthday declared a national holiday gives boost to the 21st February Movement.

“The Women’s League has also been busy with a host of mobilisation programmes that feed into the party’s consolidated campaign strategy.”

Cde Chombo said his office had already embarked on mobilisation of resources to ensure a smooth campaign.

“I would like to assure you that as your Secretary for Administration, I will do everything in my power to make sure that resources are availed to you timeously in order to meet objectives set in our election strategy roadmap,” he said.

“Already, we have distributed four vehicles to each province and more are on their way.

“The party is also mobilising resources in an effort to meet the operational and administrative costs in the provinces.”
