The ruling Zanu-PF has been able to pay its employees’ salaries on time despite the economic challenges bedevilling the country. Zanu-PF national secretary for Administration, who oversees staff welfare, Dr Ignatius Chombo said the ruling party had no salary arrears. He was speaking during a commissariat workshop on voter education and registration campaign in Gweru yesterday.

“The revolutionary party, despite the economic challenges the country was facing has no salary arrears with its employees,” he said. “The party’s financial records show that there are no arrears with the party workers, including their medical aid and funeral covers are up to date.”

Dr Chombo said party workers who wanted to participate in full time politics should first resign.

“For those working in the party civil service department, they have to resign first if they want to be fully involved in the revolutionary party’s politics,” said Cde Chombo.

Addressing the same meeting, war veteran and Member of House of National Assembly for Mberengwa South Cde Chiratidzo Mabuwa labelled some rebellious members of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) as ungrateful cadres. She said despite President Mugabe’s efforts to improve the welfare of war veterans some still had the guts to attack him and the First Family.

“President Mugabe was at the forefront to ensure that war veterans be given Z$50 000 pensions payout which some ended up misusing,” said Cde Mabuwa. “But despite all their shortcomings, President Mugabe didn’t lose heart with the war veterans as he went a step further in empowering them through creating a Ministry that deals with their concerns directly.

“But some of them have repaid him by attacking his person and his family.

Cde Mabuwa said through the benevolence of President Mugabe, war veterans now have a secretary who sits in the Politburo together with his deputy, unlike other ministries were the secretary sits in the party body alone. She urged war veterans who have remained loyal to the party and President Mugabe to continue offering their allegiance as that reflected the true spirit of the freedom fighters.
