Zanu-PF Central Committee member for Buhera district Cde Soul Nzuma has said he will be contesting for a seat as a Member of Parliament in the forthcoming 2018 harmonised elections.

Cde Nzuma made his intentions public when he accompanied Buhera district Women’s League chairpersons who received chicks donated by First Lady, Dr Amai Grace Mugabe on Tuesday last week in Mutare.

He assisted the women with transport from Buhera to Mutare.

The 3 000 chicks were handed over by Women’s League national secretary for administration Cde Letina Undenge.

“This time around I am in,” said Cde Nzuma. “I realised that I can stand a chance. Ndinopinda apa.”

Cde Nzuma commended the First Lady’s efforts of donating chicks to women, saying the gesture went a long way in empowering women.

“This is in line with the Zim-Asset cluster which seeks to eradicate poverty and enhance nutrition,” he said. “People are being empowered through Amai Mugabe’s initiatives since it is a pass-on programme.

“Apart from being empowered, people would also enhance their diet since chickens are a source of protein.”

Cde Nzuma said considering that Buhera was an arid district, the chicken rearing project would complement other projects which were being undertaken in his area.

He said the poultry project would not only help people from Buhera, but Manicaland province at large.

“We received a good harvest, but the poultry project would also complement other projects like the irrigation and fishery projects that are being introduced,” said Cde Nzuma. “Buhera is an arid district, which does not have large water reservoirs or farms.

“This is one way of helping the communities, and remember it is not Buhera only, but Manicaland at large that is benefiting.”

Buhera Central legislator Cde Ronald Muderedzwa also attended the event, which was graced by senior Zanu-PF provincial leaders, including provincial secretary for administration Cde Kenneth Saruchera.
