Zanu-PF national political commissar Cde Saviour Kasukuwere has urged youths in Mashonaland Central to remain self-reliant and emulate the role played by President Mugabe and Africa’s fallen heroes in emancipating the continent.Cde Kasukuwere, who was guest of honour at the province’s Africa Day commemorations held at the Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) frontline institution in Shamva yesterday, said youths should abstain from the mentality of depending on donors.

He said they should start their own ventures that will empower them economically.

“You must uphold the pride of being African despite the challenges being faced by the country and utilise resources availed to us by great African leaders such as Julius Nyerere and Kwame Nkrumah as we continue to fight for economic independence,” said Cde Kasukuwere.

“Why depend on donors with the vast resources in our country and Africa as a whole? Who are you waiting for kuti akudiridzire munda wako? Urikumirira ani kuti akurimire?

“We must work hard to economically free ourselves and discard idleness hoping that a donor will come to your aid so that you get empowered.”

Cde Kasukuwere criticised divisions within the African continent where Africans appear to be bent on destroying each other.

“We have to embrace each other as Africans and remain committed in developing and further empowering ourselves in the same manner our departed cadres did,” he said.

zanu-pf secretary for the youth affairs Cde Pupurai Togarepi applauded the role played by Africa’s heroes who fought tirelessly for the liberation of the continent from colonisation.

He urged youths to defend and jealously guard the legacy left by the heroes and realise the importance of such critical gatherings that remind them of their God-given African identity.

Cde Togarepi castigated the West’s stance of trying to tarnish President Mugabe’s image when Africans regard him as he ideal leader to steer the continent’s economic freedom by electing him as both Sadc and AU chairman.

DAPP Zimbabwe chairman and representative of the Federation Humana People to People Mr Ib Hansen congratulated President Mugabe for assuming the AU chairmanship and said his organisation recognised the importance of African unity.

Also present at the commemorations were members of zanu-pf’s Politburo and Central Committee, Government officials and Members of Parliament.
