THE ZANU-PF youth leadership in Manicaland has embarked on a campaign to encourage its party members to acquire identity cards and register to vote ahead of the 2018 harmonised elections.

Youths chairperson, Cde Mubuso Chinguno yesterday told The Herald that they had since dispatched some members of the youths’ executive to mobilise people to participate in the voters’ registration exercise, which began this week.

He said their mandate was to make sure that the ruling party earned 500 000 votes during next year’s elections.

“We had a meeting today (yesterday) in Mutasa where were discussed the roadmap into the elections. We want to dispatch members of the youths’ executive in all districts and wards to mobilise people to register to vote.

“We are saying go and obtain a national identity card and then register as a voter. We also have a programme of educating people on what is Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) and how the elections will be conducted. We want every youth to register and vote when elections come,” he said.

Cde Chinguno said they would also dispatch youth members to verify structures at grassroots to make sure that every ZANU-PF member played a role during the election campaign time.

He said they wanted to claim all the 26 seats in Manicaland.

“Our youth political commissar was on the ground mobilising people and telling them that we want to go into the elections as one voice. We are saying ZANU-PF should win the elections and take all the 26 seats. We are not going to allow any divisions within the party and we will not tolerate anyone who is going to preach the gospel of factionalism in Manicaland. We were very clear from the beginning that we are rallying behind President Mugabe and that is what we want to hear here in Manicaland. As youths, we are rallying behind the President, Cde Mugabe,” he said.

Cde Chinguno said they had already made progress in Mutare urban and they were taking their campaign to Zimunya and Marange communal areas.
