Sungura musicians Leonard Zhakata and controversial singer Jacob Moyana of the “Munotidako” fame became the centre of attraction at the much publicised Sungura Night at Gwanzura Stadium on Friday.
The event that was meant to celebrate Chipaz Promotions’ 10th anniversary failed to attract the expected numbers despite having top entertainers from the genre.

Organisers of the event got an egg on their face after security bashed Peter Moyo’s manager, Sukol Dube, at the VIP entrance.

Dube, who was trying to negotiate his way into the venue, sustained head injuries. Partson Chimbodza, the organiser of the event, negotiated with Dube before giving him money for medication. Different sungura artistes including Romeo Gasa and Alick Macheso, took turns to entertain the small crowd that turned up  for the show while the sound system was a nightmare.

Zakaria was the first to take to the stage and gave a polished act paving the way for Sulumani Chimbetu, who tried to keep revellers on their toes despite the sub-standard sound system. Zhakata and Moyana were the centre of attraction. The crowd went into frenzy after Macheso dancer Selemani Mpochi aka MaJuice joined Zhakata on stage on the song “Mugove”.

Jah Prayzah was not at his best as he was overshadowed by the notorious Moyana who seems to be thriving on his controversial approach.

The “Tsviriyo” hitmaker got a rude awakening from the crowd who waved goodbye while he was playing. Moyana brought life to the event that was almost dampened by Jah Prayzah.

Star FM DJ Owen Madondo asked the crowd if Moyana’s music could be played on radio and the question was received with mixed feelings.

The musician played two songs but the crowd asked him to come back on stage and he played another song “Tinonamatako KuJeke”.

Macheso took the stage after Moyana and the musician, as usual, gave a splendid performance.

His dancers were at their best as he sampled some of the songs from his upcoming album.
