PRISONS outfit Flame Lily were forced to labour to victory by battling Blue Swallows at Chikurubi yesterday but the priceless win was enough to help them maintain their slender lead on the World Navi Northern Region Division One League log table. With nearest rivals Gunners also managing a 1-0 triumph over Lake Harvest at Lafarge, Flame Lily knew they could not afford any slip-up in order to maintain their one point lead on the standings.

The two sides’ victories also meant that the race for the championship would remain tense and intriguing ahead of the final six rounds of games.
Flame Lily coach Nesbert Yabo Saruchera while celebrating the win over Blue Swallows acknowledged that the destiny of the title was far from being decided just yet.
The Prisons outfit have 61 points from 29 games.

“We are still fighting and the race is still on. We will not relax until we get there. The league is competitive and it needs character especially at this stage.
“We are happy for the win as it keeps us in the race and we hope to continue with this good form,” Saruchera said.

Third placed Mushowani also kept within shouting distance of Flame Lily and Gunners with another hard fought 1-0 victory over lowly Chegutu Pirates that took their tally to 58 points while inconsistent Bindura United edged Klifton Kadurira’s Ngezi Platinum by an identical margin to retain fourth place.
