LONDON. — Granit Xhaka has agreed a five-year deal with Arsenal. The Switzerland international arrived in London on Friday to complete his £33m move to the Emirates Stadium.

According to Football Insider, Xhaka will earn £120 000-a-week and has passed the first stage of his Gunners medical.

Pictures emerged on Saturday of Xhaka wearing Arsenal’s kit for next season.

The 23-year-old was having pictures in the new strip so he could jet off to link up with Switzerland ahead of Euro 2016.

He confirmed on Sunday that he had joined his international team-mates after posting a snap on Instagram with Ricardo Rodriguez.

Xhaka will become Arsenal’s third most expensive signing if he joins from Borussia Monchengladbach this summer.

After calls to “spend, spend, spend” over recent seasons, Arsenal look to be treating their supporters to an early summer gift in the form of the 23-year-old.

A fee of around £30m would be almost double that paid for the current third-highest signing in the club’s history; the £17m, including add-ons, for Jose Antonio Reyes from Sevilla in 2004.

The £41,5m handed to Real Madrid for Mesut Ozil still tops the spending list for Arsenal, with Alexis Sanchez, £35m from Barcelona, in 2014 second.

Compared to other clubs, Arsenal’s signings over £20m have been few and far between. Manchester City have signed 20 players for £20m or more, while Manchester United have signed 13, Chelsea 15 and Liverpool nine.

Xhaka has been holding out for a move to England after impressing for Borussia Monchengladbach.

“The Premier League is not my goal but a childhood dream,” he said.

Arsenal are keen to confirm Xhaka’s arrival before Euro 2016 begins on June 10.

A shake up of the midfield is one of Arsene Wenger’s priorities this summer with Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky all leaving.
