A Mwenezi woman last week severely assaulted her 15-year-old sister before forcing her to be intimate with her husband while she watched, police in Masvingo have said.
It is alleged that the 38-year-old woman did this after her teen sister refused to become her husband’s second wife.
The woman and her 42-year-old husband are on the run and police are looking for them.
Masvingo provincial police spokesman, Inspector Tineyi Matake, yesterday said they believed the pair could have crossed the border into South Africa.
It is alleged that last Friday the woman went to her maiden home and asked that her 15-year-old sister accompany her home.
When the teen refused, her father allegedly coerced her.
On the way back, the woman allegedly told the teen that she wanted her to become her husband’s second wife. The girl tried to run back to her parents’ home but was caught and dragged home.
Allegations are that she was beaten up as they walked.
On arrival at the woman’s matrimonial home, the teen was allegedly forced into a bedroom where her husband was waiting and locked the door from inside.
She then allegedly stood sentinel as her husband raped her sister.
The girl made a police report and it was found out that the couple had fled.
