Entertainment is generally acclaimed to be about showmanship and is also called ‘show business’.

In Zimbabwe, most entertainers, especially the promoters, artistes, celebrities and even musicians had always developed an alter ego of affluence, at least on camera.

So this weekend is jam packed with a lot of shows happening around.

Worse still, the venues are even close to each other and many have raised the questions on promoters as regards who will rule the roost?

Could it be that the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) somehow have approved of this?

The fact that they possibly did putting a blind fold that they might be shooting themselves in the foot is myopic.

Who will rule the roost tonight?

Given a chance this was the birthmark or should we say the development of arts sector if they had agreed to do one big show with those artists under one roof.

Yes, the venue could be National Sports Stadium, under this condition, no one would go back home with headache from fans, business people, artistes and promoters.

They could have lined it up from dancehall to hip-hop under the same roof.

Like tonight we have Jamaican artistes Beenie Man and Demarco on different venues of which somehow times would clash.

How then would one who so love the two have an opportunity to enjoy the performances?

Besides today too is the closing night for Harare Agricultural Show and the families would have loved to take their children there.

Considering our economic crisis, the game would not be fair.

Someone has to die tonight?

Has the NACZ considered that?

According to NACZ a meeting with the promoters over the situation was held and the promoters were okay with that.

But is this fair to fans, artistes, business people (those who would want to sell chips, burgers, drinks, etc) and promoters?

Mind you, checking with all the events it is the same artistes and same fans.

Believe you me, the last show would be average considering they might be tired.

Again does that mean, tonight there are no other shows at some of the regular sports like Jongwe, Alliance Francaise, Pabloz and Mega 2 among others.

This battle has to be drawn tonight and let’s see who will take the crown.

One point not to miss is that, does it mean that all the double-thrice booked artistes have pocketed the money or it is about freebies, including exposure as some would say?

However below is a quick run-down of the shows to be hosted today and take your pick where you want to be:

Bennie Man — Unstoppable

The King of Dancehall — Jamaican reggae dancehall artiste Anthony Moses Davis, better known by his stage name as Beenie Man is in the country.

He arrived late on Thursday and Friday he was busy with radio and television interviews apart from sight-seeing and meeting fans.

Demarco

Demarco

Beenie Man show is scheduled for today at Alexander Sports Club in Milton Park, hosted by Star FM and 2 Kings Entertainment.

The event is pencilled at 9pm sharp with acts like Winky D, Jah Prayzah, Soul Jah Love and Cindy Munyavi sharing the stage with Beenie Man.

Meanwhile, former model cum musician Vanessa Sibanda affectionately known as Queen Vee will no longer be performing as her manager Farai Chamatowa confirmed the latest development.

“Queen Vee won’t be attending Beenie Man show unfortunately as scheduled because of late payments,” he said.

The Shooting Stars concert

Jamaican dancehall star Collin Demar Edwards, better known by his stage name Demarco, is scheduled to play at Longchen Plaza Mall in Belvedere.

The show which is starting at 6pm sharp will see local musicians like Cindy Munyavi, EXQ, Trevor Dongo, Soul Jah Love, Kinnah, Guspy Warrior, Freeman and Boom Beto among others.

Harare Agricultural Show and Cup Clash

As the norm, tonight the curtain comes down at the Agricultural show and fireworks display and a lot of lined up musicians performing again. The showground is also close to some of the venues which is hosting dancehall artistes. Does this mean the fireworks will then cater for them too? one wonders.

Still on the show factor, again there is the Show Cup-clash which is usually hosted at City Sports Centre and word is that a lot of dancehall artistes are lined up for the cup clash.

Who will be crowned the king or queen?

The event is being run under the theme ‘Dancehall Remedy’ celebrating the sixth anniversary will see artistes like Freeman, Soul Jah Love, Kinnah, Killer T, Templeman and Garry B among others performing.

Soul Jah Love — Biggest Dancehall Showdown

It is true that the ‘Pamamonya Ipapo’, hitmaker is the man of the moment and most wanted. He is hosting his own showdown show with artistes like Guspy Warrior, Kinnah, Seh Calaz, Killer T, Freeman, Dadza D and Bounty Lisa among others.

Surprisingly the show is being held at open space opposite Harare Fire Brigade station.

Unplugged

From afternoon those who want the quiet like social life, picnic style can go for Unplugged Zimbabwe a local event that promotes music and fellowship in a family friendly manner environment.

The show is held on Saturdays and Sundays sometimes at has been on different venues such as Tree Tops, Raintree, CFX Sports Club, Wingate Golf Club and Borrowdale Race Course.

Today the show is being held at Wingate Pomona and Winky D is the main act among other musicians who he will share the stage with.
