Harold Ekeh

New York. – Harold Ekeh, a teen from Nigeria resident in New York has a tough decision to make regarding his university education after he was accepted to all of the Ivy League schools in the United States.

The eight prestigious institutions are Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University, and Yale University.

The term Ivy League has connotations of academic excellence, selectivity in admissions, and social elitism.

Harold was accepted to all the 13 schools he applied to and has plans to be a neurosurgeon. He moved to the States with his family at the age of eight.

Since then, the 17-year-old has excelled at Elmont Memorial High School on Long Island.

In addition to founding a college mentoring programme at his school, Harold also takes part in the Key Club and Model UN, speaks Spanish and Igbo, plays the drums, and was part of his school’s Homecoming Court.

The teen was recently in the 2015 Intel Science Talent Search, and was a semi finalist for his research on how the acid DHA can slow Alzheimer’s.

For his college essay, Ekeh didn’t pull on the heartstrings of scouts, but remained humble as he talked about his journey from Nigeria to America and how he stays positive when faced with new challenges. – globalgrind.com.
