WHEN CA$H MEETS CA$H… ►Members only . . . private party for executives

PARTY
Tafadzwa Zimoyo Lifestyle Writer—

If renowned business executives like top US business magnate, author and television personality Donald John Trump of The Trump Organisation and Microsoft’s Bill Gates can take time out to “mix business with pleasure”, then there is no reason why our own top executives can’t date our top-drawer

entertainers away from the confines of their high rise offices.

This was the case when the ‘who-is-who’ of some of Zimbabwe’s leading business executives took time out of their busy schedule to get down to some serious arts and ‘business’ when they took part in a midweek extravaganza dubbed “Executives Night Out” held at the Rainbow Towers in Harare.

While people normally have the perception of company executives as those guys who are always wearing grey suits with serious faces and hectic diaries, planning and working out financial projections and balance sheets, this was a different case altogether as the top dogs took time out with some of Zimbabwe’s finest musical talents including superstar Oliver Mtukudzi, Sulumani Chimbetu, Victor Kunonga, Jah Prayzah, Mike Bere, Talking Guitars, Soul Afrika and Mike Bere.

Forget all about the men and women of the suits, ties, blazers and stilettos at an event that had all the boardroom trappings of a formal function as the Wednesday night gig seemed to have been snapped off a Hollywood A-class affair.

The rainbow-guilded affair smelt of nothing but money, good food, perfume, make-up, expensive fabric, fine wines and cognac, while the music was delivered by the artistes in a manner fit for royalty.

It all pointed to how much power, influence, and authority and respect these business executives wield.

True to its billing, the event attracted the cream of Zimbabwe’s executives and the country’s leading media integrated firm, Zimpapers was among the sponsors.

There was no reason for the attendees to grumble in order to fork out the money for the tickets to the event, which were going for US$100 per person since everything was in place and this meant that they got value for their money.

The buffet was just out of this world and those who are gastronomes at heart had a whale of a time in showing their other side — passion for good food and drink! Companies had an opportunity to advertise their company products and services during the event through the placement of their banners and distribution of fliers.

If the likes of Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, Prince William and P Diddy among others are world renowned fashionistas and know how to dress to kill, the executives and the artistes were surely draped to prove a point to the world that they too cannot be left out when it comes to choosing and rigging the latest fabrics in haute couture.

Since this was dinner, the fashion came in its many dimensions, colours, designs, facets, frills and spills that suited well with the evening’s theme. And as if the guests wanted to do justice to the choice of the venue, the Rainbow Towers, the executives and the artistes were like moving ‘towers’ of fashion.

Still talking about fashion, the hosts of the night, radio personalities and presenters, stunning Candice Mwakalyelye of ZiFm and Star FM’s charming Richard Kohola, also sparkled in their own unique way as their presentation — which gelled well — was as effervescent as the wine that was being popped and flowing merrily at the tables.

Their act had all the etiquette that befitted such a top-tier outing, and with the artistes in attendance, it only needed some foreign news agencies to be there to beam the event to the world and prove that Zimbabwe indeed has what it takes as one of the most pristine, business-savvy and artistically and culturally-endowed countries on the planet. This was a moment for those in present to further project the story of rebranding Zimbabwe as one of the best places in the world to do business in a hospitable and tranquil environment, while other human capital in the arenas of arts, hospitality, tourism and culture are also on offer to those who like to enjoy life and never lose a minute of it.

No wonder why Victor Kunonga with numerous hit songs like “Ndanyengetedzwa naMai”, “Maidarirei?” and “Mamurega” to his name, is such a darling with the corporates because he knows how to impress them, something he delivered straight from the heart with such kind of effortless and charming finesse.

So did the grandmaster of Zimbabwean music, Oliver Mtukudzi. They, just like his multitudes of followers, never had enough of him. Jah Prayzah further fanned the fire with high-octane acts in similar fashion to the rest of the other artistes who were on offer during the dinner night.

“We are glad that the corporates turned out for the event, and the fact that the artistes were also there shows that we are going places as a nation in terms of promoting the business environment, of which the arts are also a part of.

“We hope to grow this idea, which is new in Zimbabwe although in other countries like the United States, it has become one of the most influential ways of doing business in a relaxed and fun-filled atmosphere and we are happy that our Government is also supportive of our efforts as businesspeople and company executives,” said Alois Burutsa of Brand Solutions, who organised the event.
