Water woes hit Chinhoyi suburb

Some houses in Chinhoyi’s Muzari suburb have been without water for over six months. Residents along Herbert Chitepo Road said the problem started early this year when council fixed a pipe taking water to Orange Grove suburb.

This resulted in low pressure in the area, while residents in Orange Grove, who had gone for years with dry taps celebrated. Said a resident in the area: “This problem has been going on for a long time without any solution from council. We have visited the engineering section, but nothing has changed.

The residents said council continued to bill them, even when they were not receiving water, but instead have to purchase it for both drinking and other household requirements.

Chinhoyi town clerk Mr Maxwell Kaitano said council was investigating to establish the reason for the area not receiving water.

“We are aware of the challenge in Muzari and our engineers are looking into it so that they establish the cause,” he said.

“They are tracing the whole system to see if they could be some valves that are not working properly.”

Mr Kaitano said a similar challenge was recently rectified in Brundish and residents in the affected area should be patient while investigations were in progress.
