Renowned sculptor Dominic Benhura recently challenged sculptors to polish up their works so that visual arts grows in Zimbabwe. The sculptor said the recognition of the art discipline by the Government was a positive move and there was need for them to prove their ability through their works.

With Hifa beginning today several visual artistes are expected to showcase their works at the festival that ends on Sunday. Hifa communications officer Tafadzwa Simba said they have not yet compiled the numbers of visual artistes who have registered for this year’s event but they expect a healthy turnout and are confident that show-goers will be satisfied before the six days are up.

Different artists are expected to bring their works exhibiting them to merrymakers as they tell their stories through their works.

This is a wonderful opportunity for locals to learn of and appreciate some of the talent within our borders that is so beloved in other lands. Shona sculptor has become an international brand with collectors from countries like Germany and Hong Kong where there are connoisseurs.

Some will have the chance to shine at exhibitions hosted by National Art Gallery.

In the past well known sculptors like Benhura and Emmanuel Mtizwa have shined at the event.
