KIERAN Vincent shot a five-point lead with a gross score of 144 to win the 2014 Bob Blake and Lewis Chitengwa Memorial Trophy at Wingate yesterday.
The tournament is played annually in honour of the late Lewis Chitengwa, who made history by becoming the first and only black golf player to win the Orange Bowl Trophy in the United States during his days when he also beat Tiger Woods when they were still juniors.
Chitengwa (Jnr) died at the age of 26 in 2001 after a bout of meningitis.

Behind Vincent with a gross score of 149 was Justin Kersten as Mbongeni Maphosa and David Amm were tied for third place with gross scores of 151 each after the two rounds.

Maphosa was third and the one handicap player carded 72 and 74 in the two rounds while national team captain Stuart Krog was fourth.
Justin Kerstin came fifth as Mayford Sibanda, Thompson Musiiwa Tafadzwa Nyamukondiwa and Trevor Chaparadza completed the top 10.

The tournament is part of the Zimbabwe Junior Golf Association’s national championships played during national school holidays with the results of the events contributing to the individual junior golfers’ national rankings.

The juniors are taking part in five competitions and on Monday, Jack Allard won the Much Masunda Trophy at Royal Harare.
Allard of Bulawayo Golf Club had two decent rounds of 69 and 71, off his three-handicap.

The national team player, who was in Tanzania for the tri-nations which they successfully defended last week, got the better of more than 40 other juniors who are playing in the four events lined up in Harare.

Vincent, also a national team player, was second in the event with rounds of 72 and 74 in the morning and afternoon sessions.
The last event will be the Kundai Zirova Memorial Tournament to be hosted in Norton  tomorrow.
