Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister Senator Shuvai Mahofa has urged districts in the province to implement Zim-Asset programmes at village level to ensure that communities benefit.

Sen Mahofa was speaking at the launch of a programme called “Village Zim-Asset” at Gomana Village in Chivi South that is being spearheaded by Chivi Rural District Council chairperson Cde Killer Zivhu.

Projects being implemented in the village have changed the status of the people as they are benefiting through various means.

The villagers have embarked on small-scale irrigation schemes, market gardening, cattle feeding, rehabilitation of roads, building modern homesteads and installing solar panels to provide lighting. Sen Mahofa said Cde Zivhu was being practical by ensuring that the provisions of Zim-Asset were being implemented at village level.

“Today I am here to launch the first Zim-Asset projects being implemented in the rural areas and at village level,” she said.

“This has not been done in any other area in Zimbabwe. We want this to be copied by all the seven administrative districts in the province.

“All councils must follow suit and emulate the example being set in Chivi South to ensure the success of Zim-Asset.

“What is being done by Cde Zivhu will ensure that people are prepared, especially on hunger since this region is arid.”

Speaking at the same occasion, Cde Zivhu said people should realise that they must take part in enhancing Zim-Asset at individual level since they are the most important asset that the country possesses.
