AFTER making history as the first Zimbabwean to win a world bodybuilding title, Victor Hungwe said he is now eyeing for more glory on the international scene next year.Hungwe came first in the Under 90kgs at the World Physique Federation Mr Universe in Italy at the weekend and is now looking at competing in more international shows in 2014.

In winning the world title, Hungwe managed to put behind him the disappointment of failing to win the All-Africa Muscle Mania contest when he lost to Champion Chiendaramwanio in Harare in August.

“I came first in the Under 90kgs category. I think my biggest strength was that my muscles were full and I was bigger in size.  I was around 88,6kgs during the weigh-in. I thought I was really cut and I had prepared very well for the event.

“When I went into the competition, I was looking at getting a top three finish but now I am overjoyed in winning,” said Hungwe.
Next year Hungwe will be returning to Europe for two more shows and also got a wild card to compete at an amateur event in the United States.

“The year has come to an end but next year, I am having two shows in Europe  — one of them in Belgium and the other in Slovenia.
“After winning at the world championships, I also got an invitation to an amateur competition in the USA,” said Hungwe.

But the National Federation of Zimbabwe Bodybuilding and Fitness have a lot of questions to answer after the athlete competed in Italy under the South African flag.

To qualify for the World Physique Federation Mr Universe, Hungwe had won an event in South Africa in September.
“For me to compete at the world championships, I had go through the qualifiers in South Africa and I was part of the South African team. Unfortunately, the Zimbabwe federation is not affiliated to the world union.

“Now because I had been selected by South Africa, I had to wear the South African tracksuits and I only took my Zimbabwean flag after the competition,” said Hungwe.

Meanwhile, seasoned campaigner Isaac “Sugar” Chimuchenga won the Mr Die Hard contest in Gwanda while Lovemore Mnyamana came second at the event.
