CAPS UNITED turned the heat on Zimbabwe international defender Daniel Veremu yesterday by publicising the transaction between the two parties where a deal was sealed for the steely centreback to play for the Green Machi-ne this season.
Veremu, one of the best defenders on the domestic Premiership, has angered the CAPS United camp with his decision to dump them, despite having signed to play on a one-year loan deal, in favour of a move to top-flight league newboys FC Platinum.
There are fears that Veremu’s career could be derailed this season, with the Premiership leadership adopting a tough stance in which they will ban players who sign for two clubs, if he entered into an agreement to play for FC Platinum.
“Players who will be found to have signed two or more contracts with different clubs will not be registered by the PSL for the whole season,” PSL acting chief executive Kenny Ndebele told The Herald recently.
“This means that the players will not be eligible to play for any of the teams.”
CAPS United, who have already raised the issue with Ndebele, yesterday dug deeper into the trenches as they prepared for a long-haul battle over the signature of the defender.
While some of the club’s leaders have questioned the wisdom of pushing for a player whose loyalty now appears elsewhere, coach Moses Chunga wants the defender among his backline squad and has been pushing for a resolution of the case that ends with Veremu staying in their stable.
Veremu, who pocketed US$2 000 as part of his advance payment of his signing-on fees, sent CAPS United officials into panic mode when he refused to turned downhis January salary, just before the Warriors left for the CHAN tournament in Sudan, saying he needed to settle some issues first.
Shooting Stars president Joel Sengeredo, whose team holds the rights for Veremu, sanctioned the one-year loan deal and was paid US$5 000.
The Green Machine’s leadership yesterday decided to publicise details of the transaction they entered into with Veremu and his management team in December last year leading to the centreback committing his signature to playing for CAPS United this season.
The documents clearly show that Veremu signed a deal with CAPS United and a clearance was subsequently issued by his parent club Shooting Stars.
On December 17 2010, Shooting Stars’ president Sengeredo and CAPS United director Farai Jere signed an agreement, related to Veremu’s loan transfer, which stipulated that:
l The loan transfer fee for the said “Player” is USD5 000 for one-year period
l The payment plan agreed is as follows (a) USD5 000 paid on the 17th December 2010
l When the player (Daniel Veremu) moves within or outside the country within the next soccer season (January 2011 — December 2011) the following will apply — CAPS United FC will get 80% of transfer fees, Shooting Stars or Joel Sengeredo will receive 20% of the transfer fees
l Negotiations will be done by both parties and monies will be directly transferred into CAPS United FC account or Joel Sengeredo’s account.
l CAPS United FC, who is the principal of the player (Daniel Veremu) will consult with Joel Sengeredo for any trials to be conducted outside the country.
l CAPS United to negotiate personally the terms with the player. The player will abide by CAPS United FC’s code of conduct.
On December 18, Sengeredo subsequently issued a clearance for Veremu.
“This is to certify that Daniel Veremu has been cleared to play for CAPS United
Football Club for the period 2011 season,” read the clearance.
Veremu picked up his US$2 000 payment in Harare on January 5 this year and signed for it.
