Van Gaal to get £1m bonus Louis van Gaal

LONDON. — Louis van Gaal will get a £1million bonus – if he leads Manchester United back to the Champions League soccer.

United’s Dutch boss signed a £5m-a-year deal when he succeeded David Moyes last summer.

But it is understood Van Gaal (63) will also pocket a bonus for restoring United to the European stage.

The 20-time league champions missed out on even the Europa League when they finished seventh under Moyes.

But they are on course for a top-four finish under Van Gaal – and Champions League qualification.

The Red Devils opened up a five-point gap over fifth-placed Liverpool with last Sunday’s hugely-significant 2-1 win at Anfield.

Europe is vital to United’s commercial business with their sponsorship deals enhanced through playing in the Champions League in particular.

And LVG has always admitted that a top-four finish is the priority this season.

United’s owners – the American-based Glazer family – and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward are known to be delighted with Van Gaal’s impact in his first season at the club.

And the Old Trafford paymasters will be happy to reward their experienced manager if he leads them back to the promised land of the cash-rich Champions League. — The Daily Star.
