An unrepentant thief who stole a digital camera at the President’s Department offices in Chitungwiza where he was performing 210 hours of community service for another theft case, was yesterday jailed for four months.

Brighton Kafura (24) of Unit O, was sentenced to 10 months in prison by a Chitungwiza magistrate sometime in May this year for theft and part of the jail term was commuted to community service.

Four months of Kafura’s sentence, which were set aside on condition of good behaviour in May were brought into effect by Chitungwiza magistrate Ms Tafadzwa Miti yesterday.

This was after Kafura pleaded guilty to theft charges.

The prosecutor Mr Edmond Ndambakuwa said Kafura was completing 210 hours of community service at the President’s Department at Makoni Shopping Centre.

He was ordered to clean Mr Kudakwashe Mutimusekwa’s car on May 30.

While cleaning the car, a Toyota Corolla, Kafura opened the dashboard and snatched Mr Mutimusekwa’s Samsung digital camera.

He hid it in his satchel and later took it home where he sold the camera to Liberty Chirava of the same surbub.

Mr Mutimusekwa discovered the offence and reported the matter to the police leading to Kafura’s arrest.

The camera valued at $250 was recovered from Chirava.
