Two Zim truck drivers feared dead

TWO Zimbabwean truck drivers are believed to be among scores of people who were killed when a petrol tanker exploded on Monday night on the DRC and Zambia border.

Unconfirmed reports claimed 14 people were burnt to death while 48 others are missing.

Reports say 78 haulage trucks were damaged.

It is suspected that a petrol tanker leaked and caused a fire.

The incident occurred at customs parking area in the Congolese border town of Kasumbalesa, 90km south of Lubumbashi.

Secretary for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Joey Bimha yesterday said they had not received such a report.

Efforts to get comment from the Zimbabwean Embassy in DRC were fruitless.

A senior DRC official Mr Guibert Paul Yav Tshibal was quoted as saying 48 vehicles were burnt.

Reports say apart from the Zimbabweans, Zambian and Tanzanian drivers were among the dead.
