Two children were electrocuted while several schools and homes were extensively damaged in a hailstorm which wreaked havoc in Chitanga communal lands in Mwenezi last week, leaving 200 families living in the open.
The children, both aged below six, were electrocuted after they came into contact with a collapsed power line as they were fleeing their home during the hailstorm last Thursday.

The families, whose homes were destroyed, are now living in the open, while pupils at four primary schools that were affected are forced to share the few remaining classrooms.

Masvingo provincial administrator Mr Felix Chikovo said yesterday that they had appealed to the director of the Civil Protection Unit Mr Madzudzo Pawadyira for tents to provide temporary shelter for the affected families.

He said at least 600 tents were required to accommodate the hailstorm victims and appealed for local non-governmental organisations to assist.
