Superstar Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi’s much-hyped “Greatest Hits Concert” is on tonight at the Harare International Conference Centre. The concert which was postponed last weekend to pave way for Independence celebrations will see a number of the country’s finest musicians sharing the stage with the maestro “Tuku”.
“Tuku’s” manager Sam Mataure said the gig is now on after it had been cancelled to pave way for Independence celebrations.

“Last weekend we cancelled the show so that national celebrations for Independence would not be disturbed but now the show in on,” said Mataure. Amongst those who will perform are Tanga WekwaSando, Guspy Warrior, Tariro Negitare, Ammara Brown, Jean Masters, Sekuru Gweshe, Douglas Chimbetu, Gary Tight as well as Pakare Paya nurtured and groomed outfit Tsvete.

Interestingly, superstar Mtukudzi has invited former Black Spirits member Picky Kasamba to make a special appearance at the concert.

Mataure confirmed Picky will be there to add quality to the performance as he was not only a former member of Black Spirits but a close friend to the superstar.

“Picky will be part of the act tonight and because we will be performing greatest hits, it would be great that those dances of Mdara and Picky would be rekindled.

“Besides that there is a natural synergy that exists between Mdhara and Picky so his presence will always be welcome as he will provide that extra sparkle to the act,” explained Mataure. He also revealed that the line-up of youngsters set to perform alongside Tuku may get the opportunity to tag along the superstar’s tour of UK in November.

“We have roped in a number of youngsters for the concert and we are giving them the opportunity to shine as they may get the chance to be on our November tour of the United Kingdom,” said Mataure. The selection of songs for the concert was done through requests by fans online and through radio shows. Meanwhile, Impala Car Rental, a local car rental company has put its weight behind Mtukudzi in a promotional partnership with Tuku Music that was forged earlier this year. Through this partnership, lucky fans will walk away with prizes at the concert tonight.

Impala Car Rental is offering two chauffeur-driven holiday prizes valued at over $4 500 for four lucky winners who selected songs for the concert. The winners will enjoy luxury holidays at the Troutbeck Resort in Nyanga and Caribbea Bay in Kariba. There will be many other small give-aways during the show. Impala Car Rental chief executive Thompson Dondo said he was happy about the partnership with Tuku Music as it would see the two supporting and promoting each other.

“Oliver Mtukudzi is a legend and an iconic figure that has truly stood the test of time and continues to amaze us with new albums and songs. As Zimbabweans we are proud of him and what he has managed to accomplish and in doing so, we have put our support behind Tuku Music and partnered them.

“The two holiday packages are only the beginning. Tuku Music and the fans should expect more support,” said Dondo.
