Veteran musician Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi will this year make his debut appearance at a South African festival known as the “Drum Beat Concert” slated for Soweto on May 10.
The annual festival is presented by Toyota in association with Hilltop Live Productions, Drum Magazine, Kaya FM and Mzansi Magic.
Tuku will headline the annual gig alongside top musician Ringo Madlingoz. Other performances will be in the form of Indwe, Nancy G, The Jaziel Brothers, The Soil, Zeus, Tumi and Zakes Bantwini among others.

Tuku’s manager Sam Mataure expressed excitement over the development saying the afro jazz musician is ready to do what he does best.
“This is the first time Mr Mtukudzi is performing at this festival but as usual he will be out to thrill. He is looking forward to an interesting performance.

Nothing is pre-planned as of now as his act is determined by the mood of his audience,” he said.
He added that the senior superstar will sample songs from his upcoming album that is yet to be named.

“We are making final touches to the upcoming album. I will not give further details but everything else is set.
“Fans will get to hear some of the songs at the South African festival,” he said.

Organisers of the event promised an exciting festival.
“The annual Drum Beat Music Festival returns to the Soweto Theatre this year, and will once again feature top quality local acts.

“It is therefore an expansion of the original showcase and promises to be more exciting,” noted the organisers on their Facebook page.
Last year more than 5000 people attended the festival over two days, and the crowds are expected to return again thanks to a line-up which features an enticing mixture of jazz, Afro-pop and dance.
