Tuku deserves great honour: Mafunga

Gospel musician Diva Mafunga says performing at the gig titled “40 Years of Tuku Music” would be a way of thanking Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi for assisting him in various ways in his music career.

Mafunga is one of the many artistes set to perform at the gig that takes place at Pakare Paye Arts Centre on Saturday.

Other musicians billed to join Tuku in celebrating his 40-year career are Ringo Madlingozi, Jah Prayzah, Suluman Chimbetu, Munya Mataruse, Donald Kanyuchi and Chiedza Chevatendi among others.

Mafunga said Tuku deserves great honour because he has helped many artistes shape their careers.

The gospel musician worked with Tuku on his latest album “Ndatenda Ndapinda”. They did two duets “Munana Wekutanga” and “Kutenda Kusina Mabasa” that are doing well on local charts.

“Mtukudzi is indeed a superstar. He deserves great honour from the nation at large. His humility is amazing and not many people would be so humble if they were at his level,” said Mafunga.

“I approached him with this project and he agreed to feature and put serious effort in the studio. I feel honoured and I do not have words that can explain my joy. The tracks came out well and they have been received well on the market.

“I am glad to be part of the ’40 Years of Tuku Music’ gig and my performance will be a way of thanking him for his assistance. I have learnt a lot from him and I will do my best at the show.”

Organisers of the show announced that they will avail tickets for the show on Saturday morning at Pakare Paye, Joina City, Avondale shops and Harare Showgrounds. One of the organisers Taka Mashonganyika said there will be a big surprise act at the show.

“Mudhara Tuku has many friends in music and beyond. One of his popular friends, a big name, will come to perform as a surprise act,” he said.
