Opposition political parties in the country, having failed to convince enough of the older generation of Zimbabweans to secure electoral victory, are increasingly targeting the excitable youth constituency to abet their regime change agenda. The past few weeks have witnessed MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai visiting the University of Zimbabwe, Midlands State University and Chinhoyi University of Technology, sadly not to learn, as his subordinates are doing, but to try and convince students to support his cause.

At the University of Zimbabwe, Tsvangirai shamelessly sought to incite the students to engage in violent confrontation with the constitutionally elected Government of Zimbabwe.

According to Tsvangirai, the fact that university students opt for a more intellectual and legal means to register their displeasure makes them “lily-livered” cowards. He berated UZ students saying, “the fearful lot also includes energetic, bright young students at our country’s universities who are too lily-livered to confront the political cause of their sad predicament”. Such reckless and inciting statements spewed on innocent children whose main focus should be enriching their lives through education, should be a cause for concern for every Zimbabwean citizen.

Education is vital and lack of it results in people like Tsvangirai, who rely on brute force over brain. He should take a leaf from fellow MDC-T members such as Nelson Chamisa, Douglas Mwonzora and others, who recognised the importance of education and sought to acquire it.

In calling for university students to waste time that could be spent learning, and money paid as fees by hardworking parents, toyi-toying in the streets over a lost cause, Tsvangirai demonstrated that he does not care about anyone else’s welfare but his own.

He does not care that universities would likely be closed in the event of demonstrations, leading to delays in completion of students’ studies, including those that do not ascribe to his beliefs. He does not care that some of the students might be injured as they engage in illegal demonstrations against a constitutionally elected government, while their parents work hard back home, believing them to be safely ensconced in lecture rooms. For what else is Tsvangirai concerned about besides himself?

It was no wonder that Tsvangirai found a believer in Temba Mliswa who claimed that the former was the “real deal”, whatever that means. On his part, or perhaps in a coordinated effort, Mliswa ostensibly sought to unite students’ unions in the country and divorce them from alleged political ties. On whose behalf Mliswa sought to undertake this, no one knows.

Despite their high-sounding “visions” for the youths and alleged democratic beliefs, it is obvious that Tsvangirai and Mliswa are seeking to rope in the country’s youths to do their bidding. It is therefore pertinent that the country’s youths should not be allowed to abandon their studies and disappoint their parents and guardians in pursuit of ensuring that Tsvangirai continues to bathe in luxury at his Highlands home and Mliswa finds funding for his “yada yada” project.

It is no secret that Mliswa is violently disposed and will lap up any chance to exercise his inclinations. It is telling that he was recently gushing over an invite to the launch of South Africa’s opposition Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)’s election manifesto last Saturday.

Mliswa told the media that “quite clearly, EFF stands for what the youths under YARD are trying to bring in terms of being in the elective offices such as councillors and MPs. EFF has been doing commendable work in South Africa, such as making every leader accountable to the people, particularly President Jacob Zuma. Zimbabwean youths must be practical and this is the lesson I hope they will learn from EFF.”

It is important to note that that very same EFF’s leader, Julius Malema, is in hot soup in his own country over remarks he made to the effect that his party was prepared to remove the ruling South African ANC from power using guns. The remarks were widely condemned and described as treasonous.

That Mliswa chooses to hobnob with characters like Malema whose thirst for violence and anarchy is well documented is indicative of his own twisted and violent fantasies. Were it left to Tsvangirai and Mliswa alone, Zimbabwe would deteriorate into a perpetual war zone as what has happened in countries such as Libya and Syria, as a result of the West’s interference through puppets much like the above-mentioned duo.
