Tsvangirai confirms pics are genuine

tsvangirai2Tichaona Zindoga Political Editor
Opposition MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai has confirmed the authenticity of pictures of him cavorting with a group of skimpily dressed women whom he said were his party supporters. The pictures caused a storm when they appeared on social media on Tuesday and Mr Tsvangirai’s spokesperson Luke Tamborinyoka, party spokesman Mr Obert Gutu and other MDC-T functionaries tried to play down the pictures as photo-shopped.

But yesterday Mr Tsvangirai confirmed on micro-blogging site Twitter that the pictures were genuine and he had taken pictures with supporters in Gweru where he had gone for a rally over the weekend.

In a four-point defence, Mr Tsvangirai wrote:
“1/4 Wherever I go in Zimbabwe, supporters ask to have photos taken with me and I have no reason to deny them a photo with their president.

“2/4 I had photos taken with a lot of people in Gweru over the weekend including a group of ladies coming from our meeting.

“3/4 I have done that on so many occasions & I don’t know why with 1000s of photos of myself with supporters, this could be called a scandal

“4/4 They should rather be focusing on the NATIONAL PICTURE of despondency, suffering and a crisis facing the people.”

But the former trade unionist, who is not new to controversies involving women, drew fire for his apparent lack of discretion as people took to The Herald website and social media slating him for being captured in the compromising photos.

One JZ said: “This is a picture showing a former prime minister in the company of inappropriately dressed women. These women are dressed in a manner to reveal their bodies . . . Perhaps should we infer that our politics has become a bunga bunga game where big men who are supposed to be drafting decent national policy gather up around benches for a groupie photo with calendar girls..kkkk Beware of indulgence, it is the root of corruption.”

Collin Mackenzie said: “It’s a pity how people try to run away from the truth . . . Please stop blaming Zanu-PF or politics, blame Morgan for misleading the Zimbabwean people. Shame on his spokesman, ‘Zanu-PF this and Zanu-PF that Shut up, the truth is there for to see. Shut up.”

If you are blind to the need for good leadership image then you can enjoy your democratic right to be blind. His wife is far from being amused. These are not the pictures expected of a leader, especially given the ugly and controversial lecherous history of van Tsvangisen! MDCT followers are being insulted to be told these are photos after political rallies or meetings with dignified supporters. Do ana muzvare Khupes dress like that at political meetings? Nhai Khupe kupi kwacho?! What a democratic change narrative? Apa son in law wedu ati nyadzisa! Ruzapeta nyarara zvako dzimba dzine miyedzo!

      • Suppoter

“His wife is far from being amused” Are you his wife??? Or Sbari

      • Kenge

Prof munopenga. You wanted MT to avoid his supporters. Kwana!

        • Cde Mzvinavhu(Prof)

Ah I wont apologise for provoking few misguided MDCT supporters to try and lamely defend their leader`s indefensible behaviour! The majority of MDCT supporters who are level headed socially, will tell you this lecherous van Tsvangisen is not giving a good image in the photos! Iye kungoita those loosely suggestive and “generously“ looking girls as supporters chete? Where were the dignified VP Khupe and Mai Makone and his big house, as supporters to refresh and chat him after the political business??Is this what the female youth members of MDCT do to entertain their lecherous leader? Question mark nga! Ini zii zvangu!

          • yowe

What about the dances done by female Zanu supporters? The speeches made by Doctor Mother are those any better??

          • @gunner_4_lyfe

Cde, lets try be as logical and truthful as possible. Firstly, this story was published by the Herald in order to attack Tsvangirai, it was not a case of simply reporting what had happened. Because if you read the initial report it is laden with innuendo e.g. ‘Mr Tsvangirai is laughing while apparently watching the posterior of one of the women’,
‘exclusive lodge’ and ‘wrapping his left arm around a woman in a red dress’
These statements are specifically engineered to scandalize what is an otherwise innocent encounter. Mind you the statement about Tsvangirai’s left arm being wrapped around one of the ladies is a straight forward falsehood because if you look at the picture you can see that his looks to be holding what appears to be a cellphone.
Also, Tsvangirai was interacting with his supporters, why would he then decide to chase his supporters away to interact with Khupe and Makone who he has just finished having a meeting with? Your comments are illogical at best.
If you are truly a man of the people how can you expect someone to vote for you if you couldn’t allow yourself to be seen with that person? It is called being accessible, and who says that these ladies and MDC youth members?
Lastly, and i think most importantly, Zimbabwe claims to have one of the highest literacy rates in Africa and yet with all that education people still have sick backward views of the world. There is nothing wrong with the way the ladies are dressed. If you choose to dress in a particular way then that is your choice, and I must be allowed to dress the way I want to without judgment.

          • Cde Mzvinavhu(Prof)

The pictures first appeared in the social media, before the Herald report. You can continue to dress that way for your leader .He loves you that way. Yes its your democratic right. But some have freedom to their views also if you publish your pictures in the media.Your attempt launder your lecherous leader is just hopeless! Stop it!

      • yowe

What about the speeches made by Doctor Mother are they worthy of a leader???

We are leaving in a democratic nation….when people get a chance to get a photo with their president..who are you to deny them. This shows he is a man of the people, not to have 50 goons guard you all the time

  • T. Bhebhe

Zimbabwe is at a crossroads with G40 and Lacoste at each others throats. Tsvangirais pictures with his party supporters who are by the way dressed is not news that we are interested in, grow up. It shows your stereotype thinking about women that if you see a lady dressed in a challenging way to you you refer to them as prostitutes. I can ask those ladies to sue you for directly reffering to them as prostitues as your concern suggests. That’s bad biased and stupid journalism. There are better things to tell us sekuti, where is our diamond money than this.

    • MDCT Member

No one used the word prostitutes! ZANU PF party dynamics cannot justify that image for our leader. Public perception is negative. Don try to defend what you probably do behind your family`s dignity! I don`t think our leader expected that to be for public consumption. He would have said “No please“!

    • Muturikwa we Gweru.

Bhebhe you were happy that there were factional problems in the party and now you are very disappointed that the party you hate so much managed to solve that with ease as the gifted president RG has the knack of solving any emerging problems internally. This is where all your anger emanates from.

      • Japana Hapana

kkk, you really think that the problems in Zanu have vanished because of the old man’s speech? Wait till next week and you shall see. Zvibhakera zvega zvega, i sinjonjo, muchongoyo wega wega. Wait for another Dr. Amai’s rally for more fire-works.

      • @gunner_4_lyfe

Muturikwa we Gweru. When I look at the factional fights in ZANU PF ‘internal’ and ‘solving’ are not words that come to mind. The party is in shambles, thats a fact. The current article is just another ploy by the ZanuPf mouth piece to try divert attention from the real issues.

  • MweniTafara

Mr Kunta Kinte, Zimbabwe is a democratic country where we promote the freedom of choice and that extends to how people like to dress. If that lady wants to wear her shorts then she is free to do that, if you find it offensive then look away.

On the previous related article, I advised that for those who are saying it is the works of ZANU-PF’s photo shopping, what would you say if he, Tsvangirayi, admits to the photos. I agree with someone who said that such pictures are not politically marketable.
