Last weekend Tryson Chimbetu short changed his fans when he failed to turn up for a show at Junction 24.
People came and paid for the show. They were later told the musician was no longer coming and were refunded.
It is still not clear why the dendera musician did not fulfil his assignment since many excuses have been given for the development.
His band members were at the venue and it seems they were also in the dark about the musician’s whereabouts.

They thought he was on his way to the venue and they sold tickets until the owner of the venue Tavepi Madzingira told them to refund the fans.

Madzingira says Tryson’s manager Traicos Mutodzaniswa had told him that the musician would definitely come for the show until time ran out.

On the other hand Mutodzaniswa told our reporters that Tryson had not come for the show because his wife was not feeling well.
But Tryson claims he came to the venue later in the night and discovered the show had been cancelled without his knowledge. So, who is telling the truth?

The show had been well-advertised and everyone else involved in the gig looked forward to a dendera night. The promoter was there. Band members were there. Fans were waiting.

For whatever reason, Tryson failed to fulfil his mission and he has been evasive on the matter. It was also reported that he failed to perform at another show in Mabvuku at the same weekend under unclear circumstances.

This development is a sign of lack of professionalism on the musician’s side.
Madzingira of Junction 24 fumed about this lack of professionalism and lamented how the musician’s action would have negative impact on the image of his joint.

Tryson should have learnt a lesson from his uncle Allan’s behaviour.
When Allan was at the helm of Orchestra Dendera Kings just after the death of his brother Simon, he became greedy and would double-book shows and disrespect contracts. Promoters lost faith in him and band members got impatient which led to the split that saw Suluman taking over the band.

Even when Allan formed his own Orchestra Dendera Kings (Central Committee), he could not last the distance because he was unreliable. He disagreed with his son Douglas and they also split. Now, despite having a temporary band that he uses when he is lucky to get shows, Allan has lost relevance.

Allan is the only surviving musician from the first generation of Chimbetu singers and he has the talent but he has been beaten to the game by the young Chimbetus because he lacks direction.

Tryson knows all this but he chooses to follow such a bad example. Lack of professionalism has cost many musicians that could have made it a long time ago. Maybe Tryson is losing hope because the going has been getting tough for him over the past couple of months. Numbers at Tryson’s shows have been falling and he is letting Suluman fly to higher levels without stiff competition. Just last year, Tryson was a serious contender to the dendera crown and Suluman felt the heat. Sulu never felt any threat from Allan or Douglas. He was “afraid” of Tryson and their relationship was often affected by this competition. It was a good competition for the music industry because the musicians had to compete for fans, which enhanced the quality of their recordings and performances.

Two years ago Tryson made headlines when his Mercedes Benz was mobbed after a perfect performance at Uhuru Concert in Harare. People trailed the car from the Civic Grounds to the city centre. Such was the potential that he had. Suluman had performed at the same venue but could not get such a response. Tryson had the power. He ruffled furthers in dendera circles. Now, Tryson is slowly losing the battle and he will lose his grip further because of his careless behaviour. In fact, he has already lost it because Suluman does not feel the heat anymore. This behaviour of short-changing fans and clashing with promoters will cost him more. He is losing the plot.
