Dancehall sensation Obey Makurumure, popularly known as Tock Vybes, donated goods to underprivileged children at Rugare Orphanage over the weekend. The “Mhai” hit maker donated groceries including rice, mealie-meal, sugar, cooking oil and flour among other basic commodities.

Tocky, who has been hailed for his clean lyrics in a genre that is characterised by hate speech, said it was one of his aims to plough back to the community.

Through his manager, Elvis Bokosha, the musician said it was a way of thanking God for the breakthrough in the music industry.

“We have to thank God through various means and we are working to make several donations as the year progresses,” he said.

He said it was also a way of thanking their fans and sympathisers in the suburb of Rugare.

“Tocky grew up in Rugare and he just decided to plough back to the community by donating to these children,” he said.

He could not divulge the value of the groceries saying it was not for public consumption.

“I cannot give you the value of the groceries but we managed to go with what we had on that day. He also took that time to visit a local primary school and mingle with the children,” said Bokosha.

He said the musician was willing to participate in a number of projects that will be held in Rugare.

“He is committed to assist in different projects in Rugare because he grew up there and has experienced some of the challenges people face in the area,” he said.

He urged dancehall artistes to take different social responsibilities so that the genre develops.

“As dancehall artistes we have a point to prove to the people. We need to be involved in a number of social responsibilities in the society so that the genre is taken seriously,” he said.

The young dancehall artiste has walked the talk as he has been hailed for his clean lyrics. Recently he got an endorsement deal with Savana Trust as one of their brand ambassadors.

Tocky has joined several artistes like Jah Prayzah, Alick Macheso, Leonard Zhakata and Suluman Chimbetu that have been giving back to the community.
