Miss Zimbabwe Trust has revealed that tickets for the Miss World Zimbabwe pageant slated for Shamva’s Mermaid Pools tomorrow have been sold out.

According to the Trust’s representative Linda Munemo, all the 60 tables whose individual tickets were going for $300 have been taken and expectations for a glamorous pageant are high.

Munemo said they were confident of a successful event that will also make history for being hosted outside the capital.

Munemo said they were wrapping up the prejudging segment yesterday where models were showcasing their talents.

“Preparations are at an advanced stage. The 15 finalists are undergoing prejudging in preparation for the event in Shamva,” she said.

Munemo also revealed that this year, the Miss World Zimbabwe pageant had scrapped off the bikini segment.

She said the move was in line with suggestions from Miss World that was also considering removing the segment at international level.

“There is no swim wear this year. Instead, the girls will be dressed in (sarongs and crochet beach dresses),” she said.

While Munemo could not be drawn to comment on the prizes, The Herald Entertainment has it on record that one of the sponsors Kia, donated a motor vehicle.

Last year, three brand new cars, a Chevrolet Cruze and two Spark Lites, were given to the winners.

Other prizes were also in the form of iPads, medial aid, clothing and other gift vouchers

In a recent interview, Trust chairperson Marry Chiwenga said this year’s pageant boot camp alone had cost over $100 000 with $110 000 more being spent on the tent that will be used on the day of the pageant.

“Miss Zimbabwe is not about breaking even. It is about giving the girl child exposure. The reason why we have sponsors is because they believe in the brand and what we are trying to do,” said Chiwenga.

Outgoing Miss Zimbabwe Tendai Hunda will tomorrow crown the new queen.

Last year’s pageant had mixed fortunes after three Miss Zimbabwe queens were crowned within three months.

Thabiso Phiri, then 22 years old, was the first to be crowned on June 14 2014 but resigned barely a month under unclear circumstances.

Catherine Makaya then 19 years old, was then crowned at a rerun pageant on August 6 2014 that featured three other finalists.

She was then dethroned after the Trust accused her of being a rebel, paving way for Hunda (then 23 years old) who represented the country at Miss World.

This was a week before the Miss World finals and Hunda failed to rise to the occasion at the international pageant.
