THREE people died while nine others were seriously injured when a vehicle they were travelling in side-swiped with another vehicle and overturned along the Chartsworth-Bhasera road on Monday. The Toyota Noah vehicle, which had 12 passengers on board including the driver, side-swiped with a Mazda truck and overturned before landing on its roof killing three people on the spot.

The accident occurred at the 65km peg along the Bhasera road.
Masvingo province police spokesperson Inspector Peter Zhanero identified the victims as Lawrence Hama (24) of Mutero village in Nyamandi communal lands, Owen Muwandi(60) of Nyamandi village in Gutu and Rindai Pasipanorwa (68) of Dewure clinic.

Their bodies were taken to Gutu district hospital morgue.
The injured were also rushed to the same hospital where they are receiving treatment and in a stable condition.

According to Insp Zhanero, the Toyota Noah vehicle, which was being driven by Tinashe Mabwe, was heading towards Bhasera when it attempted to overtake the Mazda truck. The driver noticed an oncoming vehicle and swerved to the left in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision. His vehicle hit the Mazda truck on its side resulting in him losing control and the vehicle overturned.

Inspector Zhanero urged motorists to overtake when it is very safe to do so. He urged motorists especially public transporters to desist from speeding to avoid unnecessary loss of life.
