All is set for the popular choral group Chitungwiza Harmony Singers concert at Reps Theatre in Harare. The three-day concert, which started yesterday and ends tomorrow, is running under the theme “Zimbabwe Suite” in a bid to market the choir’s internationally-recognised works. In an interview the group spokesperson Peter Thole said the concert will serve as a fundraising project apart from entertaining the crowd.“The concert will start at 6pm sharp and tickets are already selling. The purpose of the concert is to quench the thirst of all followers of choral music. I am happy so far with how people have responded.

“We are also fundraising for Dudzai Primary School where our group hold their rehearsals. The group has to equip their music room with more musical material,” he said.

Thole said the concert will also give platforms to others singers.

“We have lined up performances from musicians such as Molly Dzangare, Donovan Jairos, Jared Chinhoro and Vincent Matundu who are set to do solos, duets and trio projects. The choir will be conducted by Arnold Dzangare and George Tamisai,” he said.

The choir was formed in August 1993 drawing membership from people of different church denominations who reside in Chitungwiza and Harare.

The formation of the group was mooted by Israel Dzangare back in 1992 when he shared the idea with people like Dennis Muzira, Peter Thole, Nailos Mwawoneka, Stephen Matute and a few others.

To date, the choir also won in the Chitungwiza Regional Choral Association competitions sponsored by Musanhi Investments apart from the 2004 NAMA award in the choir music category.

They have also won regional awards and performed in South Africa on several occasions.
