be displaced by the construction of Tokwe-Murkosi Dam.
The pegging of land at the Tokwe section of the Nuanetsi Ranch, which is being conducted by officials from the Ministry of Lands, Land Reform and Resettlement is also aimed at regularising the settlement of thousands of families that were illegally occupying the ranch.

The beneficiaries will each be allocated six hectares of land in a new and planned set up that seeks to make sure that the farmers benefit from the Tokwe Murkosi Dam once construction is complete.
Masvingo Governor and Resident Minister Titus Maluleke, recently confirmed the development saying lands officials were on the ground preparing the land.

Governor Maluleke said thousands of illegal settlers occupying part of the Nuanetsi Ranch from Tokwe River to Mutirikwe River further down were also going to be allocated some plots.
“Pegging of land is currently underway at the Tokwe section in the Nuanetsi Ranch where we want to properly settle thousands of families who have been illegally occupying the Nuanetsi Ranch. We also want to prepare some of the land for over 3 000 families who will be relocated to pave way for the Tokwe-Murkosi Dam.

”Each of the beneficiaries will get six hectares of land and we hope that the move will
bring an end to the haphazard settlements that are currently obtaining in some parts of the Nuanetsi Ranch,” said Governor Maluleke.

The Masvingo Governor said the Tokwe-Murkosi Dam was going to cover over 10 000 hectares of land upon its completion.
Besides irrigation water that is expected to come from Tokwe-Murkosi Dam, the new settlers will also benefit from irrigation water from Chisase canal, which draws its water from the Tokwe River.

There has been a lot of groundwork in areas surrounding the Tokwe-Murkosi Dam with villagers stampeding to be strategically positioned for them to benefit from the dam’s water once the project was completed in 22 months time.
Water from Tokwe Murkosi Dam will irrigate over 25 000 hectares of land depending on the method of irrigation
