It is easy to think that you have the worst life in the world when things go bad. But I think we need to rise above circumstances and learn from them, not remain victims.

With my two eyes I saw my parents fight in our presence. With my ears I heard them exchange heaps of ugly words and deep in my heart I felt the agony. The love of peace and happiness made me quiver more than any battle cry

During the day I pretended to be happy and having fun around my peers. Yes, my pillow was the only friend who knew how much tears I shed at night, whenever I thought of the future profound fear hung around me because I feared the future.

My parents seemed not to care how we felt or the way they were bringing us up. At that age I never realized that everything that took place throughout my childhood was abuse of me and my brothers. But it only made me stronger.

Well as time went on, the whole chapter of violence came to an end when my parents divorced.

When my parents parted ways life became very hard as we had to choose whom to stay with between the two. We chose our father and lived to regret the choice. I became the mother to my one-year old twin brothers.

My father always came home drunk and would be nasty to us. At first it pained us, but then we later understood that it was stress and he eventually changed.

I believe everything that took place came my way for a greater purpose.

As the saying goes “Everything in one’s life is there for a purpose , despite being good or bad and only the blessed can pick up some lessons from their hardships “

That time I seemed to be living an abnormal life as I had to play motherly and sisterly role to my brothers. From my experience I learnt to be a responsible person as well as sensitive to those around me whether at school or home.

Today I thank God for everything that transpired for he never does something with no purpose. Yes my parents are divorced, but I have learnt to be thankful that they are still alive and I can see them, they no longer fight and my mother no longer talks of suicide.

Just like everyone else I am living happily, and I am going to school and I hope to become a great person in life.
