HIGHLANDERS crashed to a third straight defeat with goals from Marvellous Mukumba and Malvin Gaki handing Triangle an historic win over their opponents in this Castle Lager Premiership tie at Gibbo yesterday. This was the first league victory for the Lowveld side against Bosso. And Triangle assistant coach Biggie Zuze praised his charges for the way they turned on the show against their more illustrious opponents.

“There is always a first time for everything, the boys deserved this win, they worked very hard throughout the game and with a bit of luck we could have scored at least four goals,” said Zuze.

“We played a goalless draw against them at Barbourfields despite creating a lot of chances but today we were more clinical and scored two good goals. “Hardlife Mavundi is back, Tendai Huwa is now training and we just hope Tichaona Mapungwana’s injury is not serious.”

Triangle could have taken the lead inside five minutes but Gaki’s left-footed strike came back into the field after kissing the underside of the crossbar. The home side took the lead 10 minutes later when attacking midfielder Mukumba benefited from a defensive mix-up in the Bosso defence.

Highlanders captain Eric Mudzingwa took one for the team in the 24th minute when he fouled Nelson Maziwisa, who was through on goal, but the resultant free-kick was well dealt by ‘keeper Ariel Sibanda.

Bosso’s reply was a snap shot from newboy Allen Gahadzikwa after a swift counter attack. But it was the hosts who doubled their lead with a very special goal. Gaki scored a contender for goal of the season when his beauty, from just outside the box, flew into the roof of the net.

Triangle had a penalty appeal waved away after a handling incident in the Bosso box. Substitute Brian Banda then scored Highlanders’ goal, after weaving past the entire Triangle defence, but it proved to be a mere consolation.

Dutch coach Erol Akbay said his men could have defended better. “Our defending was bad in the first half, I told my players to be more focused because Triangle’s attacking players were pressing from the first whistle,” he said.

“We have to put this behind us and train very hard because we are missing a lot of players and losing a number of players in a short space of time means we have also lost the balance in the team.” Bosso have now lost three on the trot after losses to CAPS United and Mutare City Rovers.
