Dwayne Johnson has now wrestled his way to the top of the box office. The WWE champion has just been named the top grossing actor in Hollywood with US$1,3 billion in ticket sales for 2013. The 41-year-old beat out Robert Downey Jnr whose blockbuster “Iron Man 3” pulled in US$1,2 billion.
But The Rock inched his way past Downey Jnr on the Forbes list not with a single film, but a flurry of action-packed movies, including “Fast And Furious 6” and “G.I. Joe Retaliation”.

Although, the “Iron Man” star is still the highest-earning actor, dragging in over US$29 million more than Dwayne in personal earnings with a whopping US$75 million.

But Johnson may continue to out gross Downey Jnr as he has a slew of promising blockbusters in the pipeline for 2014, whereas Robert’s filming schedule is predominantly smaller films.

“Fast And Furious 6” was the former wrestling champ’s biggest ticket item with an impressive US$789 million worldwide.

The gross nudged his co-stars Vin Diesel into fourth place with US$887million and the late Paul Walker into sixth. Sitting in third place is Steve Carell, who earned the spot with his highly successful animated sequel “Despicable Me 2”, which pulled in US$919 million.

Sandra Bullock took fifth on Forbes’ list with “Gravity” and “The Heat”, which earned a combined US$862 million.

Meanwhile, The Rock has two blockbuster films lined up for 2014 that could solidify him for another run at highest grossing movie star. — bangshowbiz.
