Veteran solo musician Steve Makoni who has been keeping a low profile for some time is set to release a new album titled “Munyibho” next month. Dhongi, as he is fondly known following his hit with the same title, said his album is likely to make a huge impact.
The album will carry eight tracks including two duets with Oliver Mtukudzi. He said the title of his album would be explained in his tracks.

“Although it took a very long time to come up with this album I am happy that next month it will be out.

“It took such a long period because of Tuku’s tight schedule.

“We had to finally record his part separately and mixed the slots in studio,” he said.

Tuku has previously done a version of Makoni’s epic hit “Handiende” for his “Ndega Zvangu” album, a testimony of the strong bond between the two musicians.

Makoni said he is performing more at private functions and outside Harare.

“I am still doing quite a number of shows although I perform mainly outside Harare, in places like Chinhoyi and Masvingo.

“Most of the time I am booked by corporates at their functions,” he said.

He also revealed to the Herald Entertainment that he will be performing in the United Kingdom in June or July and will make a compilation DVD for his songs.

“This year I have got big plans. I am heading for UK either in June or July.

“Before this year ends I want to make a compilation DVD of most of my prominent songs.

“Finally l have decided to respond to my fans’ outcry of a DVD,” said Makoni.

Makoni hogged the limelight in 1994 with album “Risati Ravira” which had the hit song “Zvatsonyana”.

He became one of the most popular solo performers in the country and people enjoyed his performances that are often laced with jokes.

However, the musician had gone for a long time without releasing a new album and the upcoming release should put him back on the music map.
