The return of a soldier

After a sojourn in a foreign land last weekend musician of the moment Jah Prayzah returns to local showbiz with a show at Newlife Nightclub in Budiriro tonight.
The musician who calls himself “Soja Rinosvika Kure” toured Botswana last week and shared the stage with Culture Spears and Charma Gal.

Charma features on Jah Prayzah’s song “Dali Wami” on his latest album Kumbura Mhute. In an interview the “Tsviriyo” hit maker said the attendance of their weekend shows in Botswana was overwhelming.

Jah Prayzah performed as a guest artiste at the launch of Charma latest album, “Chomi Yami” at Kagisong Centre in Gaborone and Boccim Hall in Francistown.

“We had great shows in Gabrone with Charma Gal and her husband,” he said. He said he was surprised by the way people understood his music in Botswana. “I have been to South Africa and other countries with people loving my music but this time around I was shocked with the response of the people in Botswana,” he said.

For him the duet “Dali Wami” opened the doors in Botswana as well as enhancing his relationship with Charma.

“The song is doing well in Botswana and I could tell with how people would sing along with me at the shows,” he said. On her new album Charma has a Shona song titled “Mari Muroyi” which is fast gaining ground on the local market.

Jah Prayzah said he is happy to be back home to perform for his local fans.

Show organiser Fidelis Ngove said besides welcoming back Jah Prayzah the show would give Potifa a platform to showcase his skill.
Potifa is on a mission to revive his father’s legacy and is working on a new album that will be released this August.

Potifa is the son of Mike Mopo who is known for his yesteryear hits such as “Chido”, “HuyaTitambe” and “TozvirevaKunani”

In an interview Potifa said he has finished recording his second album album titled “NdegaZvangu” that will be released this month. “All is set for the album and I will talk to Diamond Studios my recording company so that we map the best time to put the product on the market,” said Potifa.The musician has released videos for his debut album “Runyararo”.“I am working to improve because the reception of my previous album was good and I am happy about that.”Potifa marked his entrance on the music scene with a scintillating six-track album titled “Runyararo” which was released in 2012.He said he decided to revive his father’s music after realising that Mike was no longer interested in the industry.

“Like any other son of a legend, it’s my obligation to carry on with the legacy left by my father and I am happy to have taken this decision while he is still alive so that he leads the way. “After Zinawa took a seven-year sabbatical I decided to revive the group.

Potifa said he started music in 2003 when he joined Zinawa as a backing vocalist and was featured on a six-track album titled “MbiraDzakondo”. However, it remains to be seen whether or not Potifa will be able to fit in his father’s big shoes and tonight’s show offers him a chance to shine.
