LONDON. – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has hit back at Roy Keane’s “selfies and six packs” jibes – and insisted Arsenal are serious about winning the English Premiership soccer title.

Manchester United legend Keane blasted Arsenal’s pretty boys for always showing off their washboard stomachs on social media.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, one of the Gunners’ regulars on Twitter and Instagram, along with Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey, suggested Keane is living in the past and that no one sees them heartbroken after defeats.

The England midfielder said: “It’s a new era, isn’t it? Some people do it, some don’t. But we’re serious about winning trophies.

“We’ve been serious every single year I’ve been at the club about winning trophies. You can see that on the pitch, throughout the season.

“A lot of people don’t see when we lose, and go through tough times, how upset and disappointed we are. We’ve always wanted to win silverware and in the last years we’ve won a few. This season we want to go that one better.”

The 21-year-old has been a big part of Arsenal’s back-to-back FA Cup triumphs but, after scoring the winner against champions Chelsea in the Community Shield on Sunday, he believes they are ready to take the final step and regain the league title.

He said: “I do believe it’s the most confident we’ve been as a squad. We’ve all been together a good number of years, we’ve shared two consecutive successes in the FA Cup and we’ve had the highs and the nice feeling from that. That always helps.

“Beating Chelsea does help the confidence going into the next fixture against them. Against any of the teams at the top of the table, that helps, but it is a long season and it is very early doors.

“We can’t get too carried away but it is a good end to our pre-season, which has gone really well. As a team we’ve suffered some upsets and I think we’ve grown from that and learnt from it.

“Ever since I’ve been at Arsenal, we’ve had numerous quality players and the whole squad had been very strong. It just seemed that in the big games we came up short sometimes and you wonder why.” -The Mirror.
