And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straight-away the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.”Mark 9:18-20

There are only three controlling spirits responsible for every movement you see on this planet. There is the spirit of God, the spirit of the devil and the human spirit. These three spirits are responsible for any action you take. You are being driven either by your spirit, by the spirit of God or by the spirit of the devil. It is now a common thing to believe that there is the devil in existence somewhere. We can no longer debate that and we now understand that including those that are not born again, they also believe that there is a devil somewhere.

We cannot deny the existence of the devil; looking at what is happening in the world right now, it is easy to believe that there is an evil force working from somewhere. You might not see the devil face to face because he is a spirit but you can see his manifestation and his works. This is why the bible says “. . . For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” (1 John 3:8). According to this scripture, the Son of God was revealed to destroy the works of the devil, not the devil. It is impossible to destroy a spirit once it is in existence.

The moment a spirit is in existence you cannot kill it or rub it off, it will be there forever. You cannot kill a demon because it is a spirit and you cannot kill the devil because he is a spirit, but what you can kill is the works of the spirit. You can destroy the works of the devil because spirits manifest physically. You can look at something and tell that it is a work of a spirit. You can destroy the works of a spirit, but you cannot destroy the spirit doing the work. But to a certain extent, you can command spirits to be under you.

As a born again Christian, you are in charge in a given territory and you can determine how spirits move in that territory. As a child of God you can command spirits to cease to function in a certain place, in your life, in your family, in your body, in your account and at your workplace. You have got a voice that can be heard by spirits. Everybody believes that there is a devil, even if somebody tells you that he does not believe, it is a lie. The existence of the devil is the reason why he will be lying to you that he does not believe.

He will be another sign that there is a devil somewhere, who will be causing him to lie. Everybody believes in the supernatural, but it could be the negative supernatural or the positive. If there is a devil somewhere causing you to do what you are doing, controlling you and making you commit crimes, why then will you be sentenced to several years in prison after committing a crime?

Why can you not present it as evidence before the judge that it was the devil who caused you to do it? Even the judge knows that there is a devil somewhere controlling people and causing them to do certain things. Why would they continue questioning you as to why you did it and why it happened?

Finally, after everything has been produced and presented in terms of evidence that you committed a crime, you will be sentenced. Why is it not an excuse that you were used by the devil? They know that if they take it as an excuse then nobody will ever be arrested.

The sentence they will give you in court, they acknowledge that it is the devil pushing you, but because you accepted, yielded and listened to the devil you will be sentenced. Your real crime is not the one you committed, but listening to the devil. You will be punished for listening to the wrong spirit. Availing yourself as an instrument to the devil and agreeing to the controlling spirit is what you will be punished for. It means that inasmuch as the devil will be controlling people, there is a role that you also play.

The devil can operate in your life as far as you can allow him to function. Blaming the devil in the court of law would have been the simplest defence, which would guarantee your release, but it does not work like that. Even if you are to argue that you did not know that you were breaking the law, they will tell you that ignorance of law has got no defence. Ignorance again is another aspect the devil takes advantage of; you have to know.

There is your spirit, the spirit of God and the spirit of the devil, but your spirit is the receptionist. It is not really in control, it is controlled by either the spirit of God or that of the devil. The spirit of God controls what happens around you through your spirit, and so does the spirit of the devil. In that same line we are going to be talking about mental attacks, which is exactly what was happening to the young boy in the passage we read in our theme scripture.

The boy was experiencing it in his brains. There was a woman, who had an issue of blood in the bible, but this boy had an issue of the mind. Just in case somebody does not want to be responsible for his actions and would want to blame it either on God or the devil, you have to remember that your human spirit is the one, which either entertains God, or the devil. Ultimately, if you are arrested, it is because of accepting and entertaining the devil. They know that you should have said no.

There is a possibility and chance of you saying no to either the spirit of God or of the devil. Even if somebody is hundred percent mentally possessed, he still has a chance to decide. You can be possessed to the extent of destroying everything that you see, or even trying to destroy yourself, but you are given a moment of decision.
