ABUJA – Terrorists suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect have burnt down several government buildings at Fika Local Government Area in Yobe State.

The terrorists were also alleged to have looted several shops and went away with food items.

Yusuf Ibrahim, a resident in the area, said the terrorists attacked the towns of Fika and Ngalda both in Yobe State and looted belongs of the residents.

According to residents, the terrorists first launched an attack on Ngalda, a border town between Yobe and Gombe States.

They proceeded from Ngalda to Fika town, the headquarters of the Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State, where they reportedly burnt down the Local Government Secretariat and the Magistrates’ court of the area.

It is alleged they also torched the Divisional Police Station.

According to the Chairman of the Fika Local Government Area, Alhaji Baba Abare, the terrorists shot sporadically on arriving at the two towns.

“Their major targets were shops from where they looted several food items as well as beverages,” Abare said.

Yobe State Police Commissioner, Markus Danladi, declined to comment on the attack.
He insisted that the Military Joint Task Force, whose officials could not be reached for comment, was the only body that was authorized to speak on such matters.

Fika is 150 kilometres west of Damaturu, the Yobe state capital and shares a border with Gombe state to the south.

Both communities have suffered several cases of Boko Haram assault since the commencement of the insurgency some years ago.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian military has expressed determination to end the frequent spate of suicide bomb attacks and killings by terrorists suspected to members of Boko Haram group.

These attacks have been prevalent in the north eastern parts of the country.

“Everything necessary is being done to stop this unfortunate trend. The terrorists will never recover as they merely intend to pose for publicity,” read a statement.

The sentiments follow some renewed suicide bomb attacks by the militant group.

The military said the insurgents perpetrating the attacks were the surviving remnants escaping from the ceaseless assault on their forest enclaves.

“These marauding terrorists are driven only by suicide instincts as the only option left. Somehow, they will all be extinct very soon,” the Defence Headquarters statement read.

This past weekend, it was reported 26 people were killed and scores more injured after suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers attacked a mosque located at the main market in Maiduguri.

On Sunday they planted An Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) at a popular Gamboru Market in Maiduguri, living four persons critically injured.  – CAJ News
