If ever there was a beauty in the world of music in Zimbabwe, it is how new names have emerged that have turned traditional arts on their heads. This new platoon of players has rolled onto the streets like soldiers for a new cause and they have changed the arts as we know it. Now, erstwhile new-name Tytan (real name Njabulo Nkomo) of the Mukoko fame has featured in a new afropop hit video called “Baya” with Tendex of the Luggards band. Real name Tendai Madzviti, Tendex has shot his cannon into the arts world and the scorcher is something that cannot be ignored no doubt. The video has been released and was directed and filmed by Willard Magombedze popularly known as Slimmaz.

The video “Baya” is still gaining popularity and it has brought Tendex to the limelight on the musical scene in Zimbabwe. Tendex said working with Tytan was a great experience and the “Mukoko” hit-maker has a Midas touch and whatever he touches turns to gold.

“Working with Tytan was nothing but professional and uplifting. He has a magic touch to whatever he touches I was glad we produced something spectacular together that will no doubt elicit interest,” he said.

Tendex also proved his dancing prowess, as he was the man directing the choreography of the video. He also shared his sentiments on the quality of music video productions and how the business is fast growing.

“I am a dancer also and so had to show my dancing skills too as well as directing the dancing routines in the entire song.

“As you may know, music video production is an engaging process and as a country we are in the right direction. Videos from Zimbabwe are making waves, although I will admit we are not there yet,” he said.

He said the scripting and storyline to some of the videos is poor but he adapted his script from his personal life experience with a lover.

“The storyline is based on a true story where you are in love with someone who is never satisfied. In the script I go to a club with her and are having fun then all of a sudden another guy buys her a drink and she moves to his table. He realises she is loose so he runs away from her and she is stuck by the door thinking of what to do next. Another guy comes in sees her and asks for a dance inside and she says yes. She is the ultimate vixen; very beautiful and yet very dangerous at the same time,” said Tendex.

Asked on the money making side of music production Tendex said that the business is viable as long as one is committed to producing quality videos.

Tendex is an afro fusion afro pop artiste who has a degree in music. He is also a dancer, actor and television presenter. He has been the voice of “Umoja”; a cultural exchange programme among Zimbabwe, South Africa and Norway for two years in a row.
