Information and communication technology (ICT) has fast become an integral part of the day to day running of life and all sectors of the economy. Their extensive and intensive use in Government, businesses and education institutions together with new ways of accessing and using the internet efficiently has created a demand for ICT skills development. This has prompted TelOne Centre for Learning (TCFL) to augment its current offering by introducing a new degree programme, Bachelor of Engineering Honours Degree in Telecommunications Engineering in affiliation with the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) to enhance skills in this area.

TCFL has partnered NUST as an affiliate and has been duly authorised to run the five year degree programme under the guidance and mentorship of the University.

The Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE) recently approved the programme under this arrangement.

The inaugural semester will commence on September 5, 2016 at the TelOne Centre for Learning in Belvedere, Harare.

Only full-time applicants are currently being considered. Plans are underway to enrol block release applicants in the next semester in March 2017.

The rapid growth, digital and technological advancement means that ICT skills is playing an increasingly important role in future economic growth of Zimbabwe and globally.

The new offering is also a response to calls by the local industry to produce graduates who measure up to new technological demands and to cater for future technological requirements.

TCFL is therefore evolving into a premier ICT and telecommunications training institute which recognises that ICT engineers are making an impact globally thus this new degree programme will go a long way in enhancing Zimbabwe’s profile and attracting the much needed investment for research and development.

Furthermore, ICTs have impacted radically on most business and individuals creating opportunities for other sectors.

Professionals across all sectors of the economy can continuously upgrade skills in telecommunications and tele-media as well as take up various soft skills courses under the Higher Education Examinations Council (HEXCO) and Institute of Personnel Management (IPMZ) umbrella also being offered at the TCFL.
