That’s the name of the game tomorrow as the second round of the 2015 Telecel Drag Racing series revs off at Donnybrook Raceway in Harare where high horsepower tyre screeching action is guaranteed once more.

After a record turnout at the first 2015 drag racing event in March which saw over 3 500 spectators and nearly 90 competitors, more action is set to follow in tomorrow’s race meeting.

The previous event saw only one motor vehicle competitor (Alan Cacace in the nitrous powered V8 Cobra) in the 11 second bracket, but spanners have been busy as several more competitors are pushing for this elite time bracket.

Cacace will have to be on top of his game to hold on to his crown as Bulawayo favourite Terry Allberry (also in a V8 Cobra running NOS for the first time at this event) will we be looking to take the trophy home to the City of Kings.

In amongst the V8 wars, supporters of the “turbo guys” are not convinced that the V8s have the race won yet as the likes of Kevin Allmark, in the black Subaru, and Mano Zevgolis, in the hp lubes/Castrol Toyota MR2, have been busy on their cars in the last couple of weeks preparing for tomorrow’s showdown at Donnybrook.

Other Subaru favourites such as Mebs and Imran shouldn’t be forgotten either, as anything can happen at this level between these top six competitors separated by less than one second in total!

On the bikes, the rivalry between veteran Phil “Archie” Archenoul and Leslie Carlsson is set to continue yet again, providing much entertainment for the rowdy crowd who clearly have their favourites and are not afraid to show their support very strongly.

The Eliminations event, which is the clear crowd pleaser of the day, promises to be adrenaline-filled all the way with guaranteed action as grudges are settled in front of the eager crowds.

Social media is bound be abuzz after the event with happy heroes and sad losers.

Tomorrow’s event comes hot on the heels of last weekend’s 4×4 Jamboree which also attracted a large number of local motor racing enthusiasts who are expected to make their way back to the home of local motorsport for the second round of the 2015 Telecel Drag Racing Series which is now undoubtedly the most popular event on the local motor racing event.

Temba Mazvimbakupa of the Zimbabwe Motorsport Federation agrees.

“It’s no longer a secret that drag racing is now the most popular motor racing event in Zimbabwe as it now draws the largest number of spectators at Donnybrook and this is good for motorsport in general in this country.

“Motorsport had hit some turbulent times due to harsh economic climate in this country, but the coming on board of drag racing in the past couple of years has firmly brought the sport back on its feet and it now enjoying a lot of support from the corporate world.
