Ten students, nine girls and a boy from Peterhouse and Chisipite took part in the famous Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon over the weekend representing their schools and Zimbabwe.

Leanne Fayd’herbe, Lorna Doorman, Megan Shaxson, Julia Moores and Farai Mbofana made up the Peterhouse team and was coached by St Saint.

The Chisipite Senior School team was composed of Arabella Schneeburger, Lauren Kageler, Tyler Horsley, Megan Dickens, Holly Garnet, Hannah Craig and Nicole Wallace. The team was accompanied by Lorraine Hill and Susan Mahachi, who also competed in the marathon.

The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon started in 1970 with 26 runners and has grown since then to include runners from all over the world. Dubbed the most beautiful marathon in the world, the event takes place every Easter weekend in Cape Town. All the Zimbabwean students took part in the half marathon and they all crossed the finishing line. Marathon running is a growing sport in Zimbabwean schools as more and more student athletes are starting to take part in professionally organised events.

On the local scene a number of school teams took part in the Old Mutual Roger Brackley Marathon.

More schools are expected to take part in the Econet-sponsored Victoria Falls marathon that takes place on June 29 this year. – Peterhousejournal.
