A 16-year-old boy from Musane area, here, has been sentenced to moderate corporal punishment for attempting to rape his 25-year-old stepmother. The incident occurred under Chief Stauze’s area last month.

The juvenile was on Monday sentenced to corporal punishment when he appeared before Beitbridge resident magistrate, Miss Gloria Takundwa.

The boy will receive six strokes of the cane at Beitbridge Prison as ordered by the magistrate.

The accused has become a regular at the courts.

Last year the boy got a suspended sentence for attempting to rape a 10-year-old girl in the Driehook area.

Prosecutor Miss Nomathemba Sayi told the court that the teenager and the complainant were staying together as son and stepmother in Musane area.

She said on June 30 at around 5pm, the accused sneaked into his stepmother’s bedroom and found her wearing undergarments only, as she had just taken a bath.

He pushed her to the ground and attempted to have sexual intercourse with her resulting in a scuffle.

On realising that he was being overpowered, the boy bit the woman’s right ear to control her.

She managed to escape from the room and alerted neighbours who then apprehended the juvenile and took him to the police.
