ZIMBABWE’S One Day International skipper Elton Chigumbura and Test captain Brendan Taylor have remained in Bangladesh to take part in the country’s 50-over domestic competition.

The two are part of a Zimbabwean quartet that signed up for the Walton Refrigerator Dhaka Premier Division League with different clubs.

The rest of the national team players returned from Bangladesh on Wednesday evening, after a barren tour of almost two months, in which they were whitewashed by the Tigers in both Test and ODI series.

However, Chigumbura, Taylor, Hamilton Masakadza and all-rounder Solomon Mire, who impressed during the tour of Bangladesh when he made his ODI debut, remained behind.

Mire played in all the five matches of the series and made two half centuries.

Chigumbura will turn out for Prime Doleshwar Sports Club, Taylor for Prime Bank Cricket Club, Masakadza for Abahani Limited and Mire Mohammedan Sports Club.

Mire will play only two games for his team before returning to his base in Melbourne tomorrow, while the rest of the players will return to Zimbabwe on December 23. Mire played for Mohammedan yesterday, in a match they won by eight runs, against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club.

His team, captained by the Bangladesh ODI skipper Mashrafe Mortaza, won the toss and elected to bat first.

They amassed 185 runs for nine wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Mire batted at six and made 19 runs off 29 balls. Naeem Islam top-scored with 57.

In reply, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club were bowled out for 177 despite a fighting 89 from Shahriah Nafees.

Mire bowled just one over, which went for 12 runs, and Islam was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets for 21 runs in nine overs. Taylor also featured in a winning cause as his team beat Legends of Rupganj by 95 runs.
