ACE Zimbabwean motocross female rider Tanya Muzinda is set to make history as she embarks on a month-long European tour from July 5 to August 27. Muzinda is one of Zimbabwe’s youngest sports professionals who has captivated the hearts of many Zimbabweans through her inspirational story of dedication and hard work.

The reigning Zimbabwe Junior Sportsperson of the Year will travel to various European countries where she will participate in FIM sanctioned races. FIM (Motorcycle International Federation) is the world’s governing body for motorcycling sports.

Muzinda was invited to train in Belgium at the world’s largest and best motocross race track and speaking from Silicon Valley, Stefy Bau, Muzinda’s mentor also mentioned that the young Zimbabwean rider was also invited by the world’s top motocrosser Tony Cairoli to the MotoGP taking place in Italy, where she will be a guest of honour at the event.

This is a great opportunity for Muzinda to put Zimbabwe’s motorsport on the world map and become the first ever black female motocross athlete to compete at an international level.

Several corporates have shown their support for Muzinda and “Team Tanya” are appealing to the public to support her at a fund-raising function to be held on July 3 at Gava Restaurant in Harare.

Muzinda has already been hosted by the French Ambassador, Laurent Delahousse, at his residence in the form of a dinner on June 17 and in attendance were captains of industry, including Nestle, Nyaradzo Group, Dairibord, Schweppes, MBCA, Nicoz Diamond and La Farge.

Donations and corporate sponsorship arrangements were pledged during the dinner by the corporate representatives during that dinner. Muzinda was also aired on Aljazeera in a documentary which has been picked up by IIFF (International

Images Film Festival for Women) and shall be screened at their event here in Zimbabwe. Another documentary was compiled by QDeck for British Airways in-flight entertainment, starting in August.

“Team Tanya” has, meanwhile, planned a special event themed “Girl Power Unleashed” that will recognise and showcase girls with unique talents and skills as a way to show that girls can achieve greatness despite cultural biases.
