MIDFIELDER Gerald Takwara now looks set to be the latest FC Platinum player to move to the South African Premiership after his club officially opened negotiations with Ajax Cape Town.

Takwara has been at the Urban Warriors for the past two weeks undergoing an assessment and is expected in the country tomorrow until the conclusion of the deal.

Ajax Cape Town coach Stanley Menzo is keen to add experience and grit to his midfield and would get that from the 23-year-old, who featured in every minute of the Warriors’ COSAFA Castle Cup winning-side in South Africa.

Takwara has been a stalwart since joining FC Platinum in July 2015 from Tsholotsho and he has been a consistent performer.

The Zvishavane-side are willing to sell Takwara but want a good offer for him. FC Platinum spokesperson Chido Chizondo yesterday confirmed that Ajax Cape Town were happy with Takwara.

“He is at Ajax but we are expecting him tomorrow. Initially they requested for trials but we indicated that he can only be there for assessment.

‘’He played every minute of the COSAFA Castle Cup tournament and they were impressed. For now, we can’t divulge any specific financial issues but we have opened negotiations with Ajax.

‘’It took them only three days to assess him before confirming that they wanted his services.

“The ABSA Premiership window closes on August 31. We are looking at a 50-50 situation considering the manner in which we value our player,” she said. FC Platinum have already lost midfielder Walter Musona who joined ABSA Premiership side Polokwane City in January this year.

Midfielder Talent Chawapihwa joined Baroka FC on a three-year deal last month.

The Zvishavane side have boosted their team with the acquisition of Ali Sadiki, Takesure Chinyama, Mkhokheli Dube while Hamadzashe Moyo joined from Division One side Banket Mine.

Mapeza has been told he needs championship this season.

This weekend, FC Platinum are on the road to Chiredzi to face Triangle at Gibbo.
