JOHANNESBURG. — SuperSport United chairman Khulu Sibiya has lavished praise on Stuart Baxter and his players following the club’s Nedbank Cup triumph on Saturday. Matsatsantsa ended their season in style by beating Orlando Pirates 3-2 in the final at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon. SuperSport have Zimbabwean coach Kaitano Tembo as Baxter’s assistant while striker Kingston Nkhatha is also part of the team.

Nkhatha was introduced as a second half substitute in the Nedbank Cup final. SuperSport initially struggled for results under Gordon Igesund in 2015-16, but gained confidence after Baxter’s arrival in January, finishing eighth in the league last weekend.

Sibiya gave credit to the former Kaizer Chiefs coach for the turnaround. “I think I consider this more than luck. I think SuperSport had the support of the god of Africa. The support is amazing. I am so proud of Stuart Baxter, I am so proud of him.

He’s turned the team around,” said Sibiya on Saturday. United pocketed R7-million in prize money with their battling display in Polokwane — much to the delight of Sibiya. “I have never seen guys who fight from the first minute right until the last. Everybody. . . everybody was just fighting and what more do you want?

“I tell you, I don’t need this cheque. I think they deserve every penny, every single person behind this win deserves a cent out of this. I don’t want no penny out of it. “I’m so proud. I’m a proud chairman today.” — Sports Reporter/Kick-Off
